A yogic lifestyle
Over the past decade, my yoga practice has become one of my main priorities in my life. In fact, it has become my lifestyle. Yoga brings me back to my SELF.
In 2007, I travelled solo through South East Asia. This was where my spiritual journey began. I lived in a Treehouse, experienced my first Yoga class, and became fascinated with monks, monasteries and temples and all things linked to the Buddhist culture and way of life.
I completed a 10 day Silent Vippasana meditation course, sleeping on a bamboo mat, meditating for 16 hours a day. It awakened me to what is possible through stillness & silence. I tried various yoga classes and alternative healing practises, grew dreadlocks and became Vegetarian. It was a big year for me!
With my yoga mat strapped to my backpack, over many years of travel adventures, my thirst for knowledge and desire to be grounded brought me back to Cape Town. I also realized that if I wanted to start teaching all that I had learnt, I needed to be in one place.
I found my teacher, internationally acclaimed Viktor van der Kleij, who had spent many years in India & Europe, studying Classical traditional Hatha Yoga & Iyengar traditions.
I began my teacher training with Viktor in 2014. I also had the privilege of assisting Viktor in running his ashram in the Knysna forest for 6 months while continuing to expand my knowledge of Yoga Anatomy & Asanas (postures), Pranayama (breathwork), Kirtan (devotional singing) and sustainable living. This was a deeply enriching and transformative period of my life, where I cultivated discipline, willpower and self-knowledge. I am forever grateful for this opportunity.
In 2018, I spent 6 weeks in Nepal, where I completed a further 200 hour teacher training focusing on Meditation, and Hatha, Vinyasa and Ashtanga traditions. In 2019, I returned to Nepal to complete my Sound Healing Therapist Certification and spent some time in India furthering my Yoga studies, with a 50 hour Yin Yoga teacher training.
I now teach regular classes & workshops, as well as facilitating retreats, ceremonies and Sound journeys in Constantia at The Sanctuary
