sound Healing

“When I play my bowls and start to tune my voice in, a mantra starts to arise within me, and  I get transported to a deeply peaceful far away place which is pure and blissful”

I picked up my first Tibetan singing bowl on my first visit to India in 2010. I sat in the shop for a few hours while I played the different bowls and finally found the one that spoke to me.

Ever since then, I have been mesmerised by the healing vibrations & resonance of these sacred bowls. I have always been interested in theTibetan Buddhist culture, and there is just something very magical that happens, when I pick up a bowl and play it.

I began playing the bowls as part of my Shavasana relaxation offering in my yoga classes, workshops and retreats. I visited Nepal a few years later, and bought 7 more bowls to add to my family.  Later, in Vietnam, I found my Gong and made a plan to travel home with that too! I found my tingshaws in Bali, Koshi chimes from France, Shruti box from India, and a handpan from my very own South Africa. I  was also gifted various instruments from friends and teachers along the way.

As my deep passion for this modality grew,  I longed to expand my knowledge and skills.

I began to study with the late Chris Tokalon in Cape Town, where I learnt how to combine various sacred instruments with my voice.

” Chris reminded me of the purity and comfort of the human voice and encouraged me to share my voice through singing, overtoning, and chanting and weave it into the healing frequencies and soundwaves of my instruments. He showed me that sacred music and vibration have the power to shift blockages and imbalances deep within us.”

In 2019, I returned to Nepal to complete my sound healing therapist certification in 2019.

I studied under Master Shree, who shared with  me the ancient Tibetan Chakra balancing teachings with Tibetan singing bowls. From his family, I received my powerful Chakra Bowl set which are extremely skillfully handcrafted and ideal for my private sound healing energy balancing treatments.

Himalayan singing bowls have been used for centuries for healing and meditation purposes in Tibet, India and Nepal. They create a range of sounds to restore the normal vibratory frequencies within the body, mind and spirit. Sounds from the Himalayan singing bowls stimulate the brain to move into Theta wave frequencies that induce deep, meditative and peaceful states, clarity of mind, and heightened intuition. Sound Healing is an ideal way to stimulate the Vagus Nerve, drop into a deeply relaxed state and calm and balance the entire nervous system.

Music & Mantra

It was when I lived in the forest ashram with my teacher, Viktor, where I fell in love with Bhakti Yoga. Every afternoon, as part of our daily schedule, we would gather in the Yoga Shala to sing songs and chant mantras. This is where most of the mantras I know became embedded somewhere deep within me. Chanting mantras, whether the language be Sanskrit, Tibetan Buddhist or Gurmukhi really resonates and activates something deep within me. There is something so enchanting, so powerful, so emotional, so uplifting, and so healing that happens when I open my heart and connect with the vibration, words, energy and frequency of the mantras.

Music and Mantra are my medicine. Every morning I sit in meditation with my Shruti Box, light my candles, and see what needs to move through me and my voice. Music & mantra help me to shift through difficult times, confusion, suffering and also help me to release, break through and find peace, clarity, hope and trust.
Some friends who share the love of Mantra with me, invited me to join their band, Melodic Mantra. We gather regularly to sing with joy, to chant with reverance, to meditate, to elevate and lift our vibration, to make music and to offer gratitude, for this sacred, personal and heart- opening practise that we can share together and share with others too.
